Membership

PBF is a membership-based charity, which means our members support us, and we support them if they ever sustain a permanent spinal cord injury.

A spinal cord injury is seriously expensive. Just imagine having to buy a wheelchair (which can run to $15,000 each) and all the associated equipment, pay for the modifications to your home and car, and keep up with the bills, all at a time when you are unable to work.

The financial peril for people who suffer a spinal cord injury is alarming:

• Many are not entitled to compensation of any kind, and even if they are, the wait for payment may be months or even years.
• Top level private hospital cover will not even come close to covering the costs of self-care.

A PBF member is entitled to claim $100,000 within weeks of a spinal cord injury that results in permanent paraplegia or quadriplegia. We are not an insurance company. We do not quibble or look for fault. The payment may help relieve some of the initial financial burden. In most cases, it has been paid within 7-9 weeks, not months or years as is common with some insurance claims. Coverage is 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and costs only cents a day.
