Aqua

The beach, pool, river, you name it - water is the highest risk sport and leisure environment for spinal cord injury. Over half of all sport and leisure spinal cord injuries happen in or on the water and, tragically, nearly all result in quadriplegia.1

PBFPREVENTION - aqua aims to contribute to a reduction in serious injury in the aquatic environment. Males aged between 15 and 34 years are a priority target group as they face a much higher risk of serious injury.

Schools

The Paraplegic Benefit Fund Australia (PBF) would like to invite schools to book the award winning, PBFPREVENTION-aqua presentation in the first and fourth term of 2009. Proudly sponsored by Fremantle Ports, the program is being offered for free to primary schools in the Port’s catchment area.

The PBFPREVENTION-aqua presentations are aimed at year six and seven students and take approximately 45 minutes. The presenter is an individual who has sustained a permanent spinal cord injury as a result of an aquatic incident and the presentation also includes a short DVD featuring water safety prevention messages.

A personal testimony from the presenter. The presenter shares with the students life before their injury, how their injury occurred, and the impact on the presenter's life and the lives of the people around them.

Scenario based activities that help students identify risk-reduction strategies.

Question time which allows students to ask questions. This opportunity serves to raise awareness of disability within the community and break down any barriers that may exist.

Schools who book a presentation will receive a complimentary ‘What are you diving into?’ DVD resource pack, valued at $99.00!
