Mike’s Solo Sail

Mike beginning work on his project

Paraplegic Mike Rowney is planning a solo sail from Fremantle to Port Hedland in 2020 to raise awareness of spinal cord injury.

Mike is an experienced PBF safety presenter having worked with us since 2010. In 2001 Mike was an active ocean-going skipper working overseas when he became a paraplegic after an accident in dry dock.

Over recent years Mike has completely refitted his Swedish folk boat (“Gypsy Rose”) but is now seeking further support and sponsorship to allow him to complete his inspiring sail.

Essential safety items including EPIRBs and a satellite phone will be required, together with a desalination unit. Mike is also looking for major sponsors to help with the costs of a new engine and sails.

He will be working with PBF Australia to deliver safety presentations as he travels up the Coast. His planned stopover points include Jurien, Geraldton, Carnarvon, Exmouth, Onslow and Dampier.

Would you or anyone you know be able to assist? Perhaps your workplace may be able to sponsor Mike. Please contact PBF to find out how you can get involved.
