Don was 60 years old when a simple, everyday task changed his life forever.
In 2012, Don was doing what he’d done for over 40 years — working on a vehicle in his own carport. Cars were his passion. A familiar job. A routine moment. But on this day, the wheel chocks weren’t secure and the handbrake wasn’t fully engaged.
As Don worked beneath the vehicle, it rolled off the ramps.
He was crushed and rolled under the car three times.
Don sustained a catastrophic C5–C6 spinal cord injury. Today, he has no sensation from the chest down. While he can move his arms and wrists, every aspect of daily life has changed — all from a moment that could have been prevented.
