Australian Councils Leading the Way in Workplace Safety
Back
1 April 2026
Across Australia, several local councils are stepping forward to strengthen their commitment to employee safety and wellbeing by partnering with PBF Australia.
Local government employees perform vital roles in their communities every day – maintaining roads, managing parks, supporting infrastructure, and delivering services that keep towns and regions running smoothly. Many of these roles involve working in environments where safety risks are present.
Recognising this, councils such as Douglas Shire, Burke Shire, City of Vincent, City of South Perth and Town of Cambridge and others have begun exploring partnerships with PBF Australia to protect their workforce while also strengthening their workplace safety culture.
Through corporate membership, councils are providing financial protection for employees in the rare but devastating event of a permanent spinal cord injury. At the same time, they are engaging their teams in injury prevention programs, delivered by presenters who live with spinal cord injuries and share powerful real-life stories.
These presentations bring safety messaging to life in a way that traditional training often cannot.
Employees hear directly from someone who understands the consequences of a single moment — and the resilience required to rebuild a life afterwards.
The result is not just compliance with safety systems, but a deeper connection to the importance of looking after one another. For councils, it is a powerful demonstration of leadership and care.
And for PBF Australia, it highlights how partnerships with local government can create safer workplaces and stronger communities across Australia.
